What we do.

Before Treatment
Please ensure that the areas where ants have been seen are as clean, tidy and free of clutter as possible. If the ants are in the kitchen or eating areas please remove any uncovered food items. Please also ensure that any food preparing equipment and eating utensils have been removed or covered.

The Treatment
Ants are treated with a residual insecticide called ‘FICAM’ which contains a chemical called Bendiocarb. This can be applied in either a liquid or powder form (sometimes both). The FICAM is applied directly to the ants nests and runs and also to entry points into houses such as window/door frames and under kitchen units etc. Conservatory and patio areas are also common locations that require treating.

We do not spray clothing or bedding. We ask that customers vacate the affected areas during treatment and not return until the treated surfaces are dry. Once dry, it is 100% safe for the occupants to return, including children and animals.

After Treatment
After treatment we will give you a written treatment report and advice on how to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment.

Black Ants (lasius niger).

Generally Considered a nuisance pest rather than a serious health risk. Ants nests are usually located in the garden although they can also build them in foundations and sometimes within buildings. Ants seen within buildings are usually workers and are foraging for food (they are attracted to sweet substances). During the mating season (late summer) large swarms of 'flying ants' will leave the nest.

Control:
Residual insecticide treatments are generally effective providing access to the nest is available. If the nest is inaccessible, insecticidal gel baits or dust may be used.

Pharoahs Ants (monomorium pharaonis).

Pharoahs ants are yellow/brown and can be identified by the 'twin bulges' on its waist section.

Considered to be a far more serious pest than the other species of ant, it carries disease organisms and is also notoriously difficult to control. Pharoahs ants like warm temperatures and are often found in central heating systems, airing cupboards etc.. Pharoahs ant colonies have multiple queens and can build 'satellite' nests in different parts of the building.

Control:
Treatment with residual insecticide is usually ineffective and in some cases can actually make the problem worse. The only effective means of controlling Pharoahs ants is with specialist bait stations.
